# Cloud Backups - Sync Another Device or Restore It on a New Phone

You can add your Cloud Backup to a new phone, a second device or the [Pera Web Extension](https://support.perawallet.app/en/article/pera-web-extension-pera-in-your-browser-dl4bpg/). Once added, the device stays in sync: accounts and contacts you add on one device appear on the others.

### Which method should I use?

| Your situation | Use |
| ---- | ---- |
| You still have a device where Cloud Backup is on | **Scan QR Code**: no credentials to type |
| Your old device is lost, reset or wiped | Your 12-word **Passphrase** and **Encryption Key** |
| Both methods work across iPhone, Android and the browser extension. | |

### Where to start on the new device

* **New install of Pera**: on the welcome screen tap **Import an account**, then **Import from Cloud Backup**.
* **Pera already set up on this device**: go to **Settings > Cloud Backup** and tap **Restore/Retrieve a Backup**.

### Option A: Sync using a QR code from your other device

On the device that already has Cloud Backup:

1. Go to **Settings > Cloud Backup** and tap **Sync with other devices**.
2. Confirm with your Pera PIN or biometrics.
3. Create a **one-time 6-digit code** and enter it again to confirm. This code protects this QR code only. It is not your Pera PIN.
4. Keep the QR code on screen.

On the new device:

1. Choose **Scan QR Code** and tap **Open Camera**.
2. Scan the QR code on your other device.
3. Enter the 6-digit code you just created.
4. Wait while Pera restores your backup. You'll see **Backup restored** when it's done.

Don't let anyone photograph the QR code, and don't share your 6-digit code.

### Option B: Restore with your Passphrase and Encryption Key

1. Choose how to provide your Encryption Key:
   * **Apple iCloud** or **Google Drive** if you saved it there. Sign in to the same iCloud or Google account you used when you set up the backup.
   * **Import from This Device** if you saved the key file locally.
   * **Enter Details Manually** if you'll paste the key yourself.
2. If Pera finds more than one key file, choose the one for the backup you want to restore.
3. Enter your 12-word **Passphrase** and tap **Continue**.
4. Check that your **Encryption Key** is filled in, or paste it, and tap **Restore backup**.
5. Keep Pera open while it restores. Backups with many accounts can take a minute.

### After you restore

* The device is now part of your Cloud Backup and syncs automatically while Pera is open and unlocked.
* The device takes on the preferences saved in your backup, such as currency and language.
* If an account says **Update Pera to restore**, update the app on this device. It was backed up by a newer version of Pera.
* If a few accounts couldn't be fully restored, open **Settings > Cloud Backup** and check **Accounts to review**.

### Using the Pera browser extension

The extension works the same way, with two differences:

* Scanning a QR code uses your computer's webcam and opens in a full browser tab.
* The extension can't read your key from iCloud or Google Drive. Download the key file first, or paste the key using **Enter Details Manually**.
