# Pera Web Extension - Pera in your Browser

The Pera Wallet Web Extension puts your Algorand accounts in your browser's toolbar, so you can send, swap, stake and connect to dApps without your phone. Like Pera Mobile, it is self-custodial: your keys are encrypted and stored in your browser, and only you can unlock them.

### Before you start

* You need **Google Chrome** or **Brave** (or other compatible browser) on a desktop or laptop computer.
* Have your recovery passphrase or Cloud Backup credentials ready if you plan to import an existing account.

### Install the extension

1. Open the Pera Wallet page on the [Chrome Web Store](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/pera-wallet/cdppklbnahdodgfaejfnmolniecifood).
2. Click **Add to Chrome**, then **Add extension**.
3. Click the puzzle-piece icon in Chrome's toolbar and pin **Pera Wallet** so it's always visible.
4. Click the Pera icon to open the extension.

### Step 1: Create your extension password

The first screen asks you to **Create a Password**. You'll use it every time you open the extension.
* It must be at least 8 characters and strong enough to pass the strength meter. A long phrase of uncommon words works well.
* It protects the accounts stored in this browser only. It is not your recovery passphrase, and it is not the PIN you use in Pera Mobile.
* **Pera can't recover this password.** Store it in a password manager. You will be able to enable Passkeys to use your biometric ID on devices which support that once you get set up.

### Step 2: Create or import an account

On **Welcome to Pera Wallet**, choose one option and accept the Terms and Conditions.

**Create a new wallet**

1. Click **Create a new wallet**.
2. Name your account and click **Finish Account Creation**.
3. On the home screen, click **Backup now** and write down your 24-word recovery passphrase. Don't skip this: it's the only way to recover the account if you lose your password or your computer

**Import an existing account**

Click **Import an account** and choose how:
| Option | Use it when |
| ---- | ---- |
| **Recover a wallet** | You have a 24-word (Universal Wallet) or 25-word recovery passphrase |
| **Import from Cloud Backup** | You use Cloud Backup on Pera Mobile. Scan the QR code from **Sync with other devices**, or enter your 12-word Passphrase and Encryption Key. See *Sync Cloud Backup to Another Device* |
| **Recover an account with QR code** | You can show the account's recovery QR code to your computer's webcam |
| **Import from Pera Web** | Your accounts are in the Pera Web Wallet. Open it, go to **Transfer Accounts**, select accounts and scan the QR code |
| **Pair Ledger via USB / Bluetooth** | You use a Ledger hardware wallet |
| **Algorand Secure Backup** | You have a backup file and its 12-word key |

Some steps, like scanning a QR code or pairing a Ledger, open in a full browser tab. When they finish, return to the extension.
To follow an account without importing its keys, add it later from **Add Account > Watch an Address**.

### What you can do in the extension

* View accounts, assets and NFTs
* Send and receive ALGO and Algorand assets
* Swap, buy crypto with **Fund**, and stake
* Manage contacts and Ledger accounts
* Connect to Algorand dApps and approve transactions (see *Connecting the Pera Extension to dApps*)

### Staying secure

* The extension locks itself after 15 minutes without activity, and whenever you close Chrome. You can change this in **Settings > Security**. You can also easily lock the extension using the `...` button at the top of the Home screen. We strongly recommend always locking your wallet before leaving your computer.
* Pera will never ask for your recovery passphrase or password. Anyone who does is a scammer.
* To view an account's recovery passphrase, open the account's options and choose **View passphrase**. You'll need your password.
