Resolving WalletConnect Issues

Unfortunately there are several known issues related to WalletConnect that our team is working on. Some of these issues are related to the WalletConnect JavaScript implementation on the dApp side. Even though these are not problems with our iOS and Android apps, we are working with ecosystem partners to try and solve the implementation issues on their side so our users can have a smoother experience using Pera Wallet.

This article offers some workarounds to most common problems we've seen based on incoming support requests and our internal testing.

Resetting WalletConnect Sessions

The most common case with WalletConnect problems is stale sessions that need to be cleared out. Whenever you experience a WalletConnect problem, we recommend disconnecting all active WalletConnect sessions. You can easily do this by navigating to Settings > WalletConnect Sessions > Disconnect All Sessions. After doing this, make sure to reload the browser tab where you loaded the dApp as well, and try connecting again.

Issues Connecting on iOS with Mobile Safari

One of the most common problems with WalletConnect happens on iOS devices, when using a dApp such as AlgoFi, Tinyman, Yieldly, Algogems and attempting to connect on Mobile Safari. After a successful connection, when you return to Safari to use the dApp, WalletConnect socket connection fails and you get stuck.

Background Info:

◾️This workflow will walk you through the steps necessary to recover an Algorand account on Pera Wallet. You must use your 25-word recovery passphrase. As the title suggests, this is the process of recovering or importing a previously created Algorand account. If you've never created an Algorand account before, we invite you to not follow this tutorial and create a new account instead.

|| ⚠️ Please be aware if you don't have a 25-word recovery phrase you will be unable to recover your old account. Pera Wallet can't provide you with any support in case of lost passphrase, for security reason we do not store the account passphrase. Pera Wallet is a non-custodial wallet.

Algorand Rewards FAQ

Algorand Foundation's staking rewards program is over as of May 2022. Since Algorand Foundation no longer offers automated rewards to Algo holders, Pera Wallet's rewards display functionality will also be removed in the upcoming releases.

Going forward, you can still earn rewards by participating in the Algorand Foundation's Governance Program by staking Algo in each Governance Period. In addition, other DeFi solutions on Algorand such as Tinyman, Algofi and Pact are also offering staking rewards.

You can connect Pera Wallet to any of these platforms and easily stake your Algos. Rewards and staking information for these platforms will also be visible in Pera Wallet in upcoming releases.

The Pera wallet itself is made up of accounts, each with their own unique address, backup phrase, and assets. If you haven't heard these terms before I recommend checking out our other tutorials. However, here's a quick run through:

◾️Your address is a unique string that is used to publicly identify your account. This is what you'll use if you (or others) want to send assets to your account. Your address will look something like this: RL6VDLXCN5G7N2GRTS7YLVDSFT4PVBBUOVTVS7T26OQ5MLXYQKRMI5ADXY

◾️Your recovery passphrase (also called backup phrase or recovery phrase) is the 25-word string that allows you to recover your account. || *It is CRUCIAL to record your backup phrase correctly and store it securely. The Pera Wallet support team will never ask for your passphrase.

|| As you're probably aware by now, it's extremely important to securely back up your 25-word recovery passphrase for each account you create! The 25-word passphrase is THE only way to regain access to your account if you logout from the App or lose access to your wallet.

Let's say that you find yourself in one of the following situations:

◾️ You drop your phone in the toilet and it's destroyed ◾️ Your phone is stolen or lost ◾️ Your Pera Algo Wallet app gets deleted from your phone ◾️ You forget the PIN to access your Pera Algo Wallet ◾️ You've memorized the recovery passphrase but one day you wake up and can't remember it!

While some of these situations may seem like they could never happen to you, we assure you that they're happening a lot. The good news is that if you back up your 25-word recovery passphrase, you'll always have access to those respective accounts.

What is a Recovery Passphrase?

Simply put, a recovery passphrase is a string of 25 words that gives you access to an Algorand account. Basically, this is the key that unlocks your account and all the transactional power that comes with it. You can now choose to create accounts within the Algorand Wallet that are backed by a Ledger Nano X hardware wallet. This means that your private keys never even touch the phone. Transactions from your Ledger-backed account will require authorization by your Ledger Nano X.
