1. What is a Universal Wallet?

A Universal Wallet in Pera is a new type of wallet based on BIP-39 HD (Hierarchical Deterministic) technology. It lets users manage multiple Algorand accounts from a single 24-word mnemonic phrase.

2. What is a seed phrase and why is it important?

A seed phrase is a 24-word backup that acts as the root key for your wallet. It allows you to recover all accounts associated with your Universal Wallet.

3. How many accounts can I create with one Universal Wallet?

You can generate and manage an unlimited number of Algorand accounts from a single seed phrase using standard derivation paths. Pera currently limits creations to 50 accounts.

4. Can I use my Pera Universal Wallet with other wallets?

Yes. Since Pera follows BIP-39 and BIP-44 standards, your Universal Wallet’s seed phrase is compatible with other HD wallets like Lute Wallet.

5. What happens if I lose my device?

As long as you have your 24-word seed phrase, you can recover all of your accounts on a new device or another compatible wallet.

6. What are the benefits of using a Universal Wallet?

7. Is it secure?

Not yet in Pera, but you can use the same 24 words on other chains where accepted. The Universal Wallet structure enables future compatibility with blockchains like Ethereum, Solana, and Bitcoin.

9. Will this affect how I use DeFi or NFTs on Algorand?

Not at all—each account is still fully functional for its intended purpose. The Universal Wallet simply makes it easier to manage them from one place.

10. How can I get started with a Universal Wallet?

Download the latest version of Pera Wallet on iOS. Android support is coming soon. Just follow the new onboarding process to generate your Universal Wallet and start managing accounts.
