Managing Cloud Backup: Removing Accounts, Turning It Off and Troubleshooting

This article covers what happens when you remove items, how to view your credentials again, how to turn Cloud Backup off, and what common errors mean.

Removing an account or contact

When you remove an account, contact or passkey from a device, Pera asks Delete from Cloud Backup?

  • Keep it: the item is removed from this device only and stays in your backup. It will no longer be sync'd to this device. You can add it back later from Add from Backup.
  • Delete: the item is removed from your backup. Other synced devices keep their copy, but it will show as Not Backed Up there. Restoring from backup will no longer restore that account in future.

Uninstalling Pera or resetting a device never deletes anything from your backup.

Reviewing what's backed up

In Settings > Cloud Backup, open the accounts, contacts or passkeys rows to see:

  • Add from Backup: items in your backup that aren't on this device. Tap Add to bring one in.
  • Not Backed Up: items on this device that aren't in your backup. Tap Back Up to include one.

Viewing your Passphrase and Encryption Key again

Any device that is still synced can show your credentials:

  1. Go to Settings > Cloud Backup.
  2. Under Backup Details, tap Credential Address and confirm with your PIN or biometrics.
  3. Your Passphrase and Encryption Key are shown. Tap Store your Credentials Securely to save the key again.

If you've lost your written Passphrase, do this now while you still have a synced device.

Turning Cloud Backup off

Go to Settings > Cloud Backup and tap Turn Off Cloud Backup. You have two choices:

Option

What happens

Turn Off Backup

Only this device stops syncing and forgets the credentials. Your backup stays in the cloud and other devices keep syncing. You'll need your Passphrase and Encryption Key to reconnect this device.

Turn Off & Remove Backup

Your backup is permanently deleted from Pera's servers and Cloud Backup turns off on all your devices. Anything that only existed in the backup is lost. This can't be undone.

Before removing your backup, make sure every account you want to keep is on a device and its recovery passphrase is stored safely.

I lost my Passphrase or Encryption Key

  • You still have a synced device: view your credentials on that device as described above, and store them again.
  • You have no synced device left: your backup can't be opened without both credentials, and Pera can't recover them. You can still restore individual accounts with their own recovery passphrases. See Recover or Import an Algorand Account with Recovery Passphrase.
