Spotting Phishing Scams

Beware of Phishing Scams on Algorand

As the Algorand ecosystem grows, so does the risk of phishing scams. A rising tactic involves malicious actors sending fake NFTs to your asset inbox that link to deceptive websites. These scams are designed to trick users into compromising their wallets—either by signing harmful transactions or revealing sensitive information like their seed phrase.

🚨 What You Need to Know

Scammers are using NFTs to target unsuspecting users with messages like:
“Claim your prize”
“You’ve received a free NFT”
“Verify your wallet to claim rewards”
These messages often link to fake websites that:
Prompt you to rekey your wallet to an attacker’s address
Ask you to enter your seed phrase

❗️Do NOT:

Never enter your seed phrase anywhere other than inside your wallet app
Never sign a transaction you don’t fully understand—especially rekey transactions
Never interact with suspicious NFTs or unknown links

🔒 How to Stay Safe

Ignore and delete suspicious NFTs
These NFTs are just spam. They can’t harm your wallet unless you follow the instructions or sign something malicious.
Always verify URLs
Pera Wallet will never ask for your seed phrase outside the app. If you're asked to connect a wallet or enter a phrase on a random website—it's a scam.
Understand what you’re signing
If you’re ever asked to approve a transaction that involves “rekeying” your account and you don’t know what that means—**stop immediately** and seek help.
